When the original Defense of the Ancients rose to popularity as a mod for Warcraft III, I had already moved on from Blizzard's RTS to the next hotness (probably Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time). Hence, it wasn't until many years later that I became aware of DotA in its modern iteration, particularly as a reference point for new MOBAs like League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth, Demigod, Smite, and of course, DotA 2.

At a preview event in downtown San Francisco, Bandai Namco Games and Hungarian developer Primal Game Studio revealed their current collaboration—a sci-fi MOBA called Supernova. The game, currently in its alpha stage, contains some predictably rough edges, but from what I saw at the event, it looks to be a more strategic kind of MOBA.

OtherSide Entertainment has announced that it has successfully completed its initial round of crowd-source funding for Underworld Ascendant. The KickStarter initiative sought to raise $600,000 which was surpassed earlier today.

Aventurine Studios has posted a new blot that reveals some of what the Darkfall: Unholy Wars team has been working on in preparation for the next major update to the game.

Robot Entertainment, developers of Orcs Must Die Unchained, has announced that Tencent has purchased a minority stake in the company. CEO Patrick Hudson says that the move will give Robot Entertainment financial stability and flexibility.

The Shadowrun Online Kickstarter page has been updated with a new note to let backers know that a new agreement has been reached with Nordic Games to bring physical boxed copies of the game to retailers around the world.

As part of last night's update, the Camelot Unchained team has posted a new image that shows the ability crafting system the team is incorporating into the game. It's largely unreadable, though some words can be made out such as recovery time, disruptive damage, preparation time, damage, stamina cost and a few other abilities. Check it out and let us know if you can get a handle on some of the blurrier abilities.

MMOs are based on their older sibling, the RPG. As a result, all contain lore that explains the universe, the background, even the reasons why we as players are even present in the world. Development teams hire legion writers to fill out the story behind the games we play but, in the end, does it matter to most players?

A pair of artists who have worked on various literary projects related to the Game of Thrones IP are also working with Artcraft to create some of the concept art for Crowfall. Marc Simonetti's art is featured prominently in the GoT-related book, "The World of Ice & Fire: The Untold History of Westeros and the Game of Thrones". Mike S. Miller has worked on the "Hedge Knight" comic book series and he has created a terrific Crowfall image utilizing his own unique style.

The Repopulation servers will be brought down today at 9:00 am Eastern / 6:00 am Pacific in order to apply the 15.1.1 update. Servers are expected to be offline between four and eight hours.

A rather oblique Twitter post has appeared on the Overwatch feed that shows a magazine cover with a shadowed figure on it. While nothing on the cover says anything about Overwatch, the appearance on its Twitter feed and the follow up post by a fan for people to scan the QR-code seems to indicate that a new character will be revealed soon.
